Helping Hand
I was a math wizard in high school and college, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Math. But in my last year of college, my first work love became computer programming. I could not believe the feeling of augmenting my skills when using this new-fangled computer. Compared to using a slide rule, programming has become science fiction gone real!
I think that’s been my life’s saga. Science fiction is simply technology that is about to become a science reality.
After college, I ended up at IBM, where my mad craving to put smarts into a computer flourished.
Nothing had pointed to me as a writer through my formal education and early work history. I began writing one day late in my career after a particularly frustrating time at work. I started by taking a break and remembering an adventure of mine in the Grand Tetons. I was alone, and the hike I took could be dangerous! If anything had gone wrong, I wouldn’t be here today. Writing the story of my adventure fulfilled me in a way I can’t describe.
In my graduate studies in 1974, I wrote a program to create musical melodies using new Artificial Technology techniques. That sent me flying. Imagine machines that could mimic the creativity of human beings! That project helped me earn a Master’s Degree in Computer Technology.
So, I started writing as my imagination dictated. I entertained myself, which became a passion after retiring from my IT job.
I realized that I would never journey to other planets at my age, so I started wondering and writing about how such endeavors might be. I’m convinced that extraterrestrials exist and have visited us here on Earth. I don’t believe they are too different from us.
Some planets are more advanced than others. Artificial intelligence is the future, and imagining more advanced planets can give us a good preview. I invent the way it can be to satisfy myself, write to entertain all of you, and maybe predict the future!
